It never ceases to amaze me just how easy I am distracted from writing. Sometimes it's because I just am busy with the things of life like job and family at other times it is just laziness on my part and sometimes it is because I do not "FEEL" qualified to write about my God and His Son.
When those feelings of inferiority crop up I know the former angel of light, Lucifer, is at work, he is the accuser of the brethren (Rev. 12:9-10). We all fall short of the Glory of God, (Romans 3:23) not one of us meet the actions and behaviors or thought life that God wants for us. Adams sin was that of disobedience and I am no less or greater than Adam. But, He who lives in me is greater than than he who is in the world, (1 John 4:4) so indeed I think I should be doing better and that is what Lucifer plays on. Yet for me to not write is disobedience, so when the pressure gets to me I finally cave and say "okay Lord, what would you have me to write?" which almost immediately causes me to feel better about myself and my calling. You see, when we fight Gods will for our life, we will be disciplined as Hebrews 12:6 says.
The verse I began today's writing with, also from Hebrews, has been on my mind a lot lately because the book I am currently writing is about faith. Personally I feel like a baby in this arena and have no idea why God has called me to write on this subject except, perhaps, to teach me.
One of the things I have learned over the past few years is that God really is the author of our faith, what do I mean? Well, in our language an author is a creator, could be a fiction story or perhaps a nonfiction book, but the fact remains an authors work is creative and original. Furthermore an author generally is creative with what is known or experienced. My point is this, God has already created in you, all of the faith you need to be His son or daughter, problem is most of us do not recognize it as faith.
We use faith in our everyday life, we believe the car will start when we turn the key, We believe that our employer will pay us for our work. We believe in so many things we could spend all day coming up with examples. No, the problem is not having sufficient faith, the problem is in our unbelief.
Unbelief, when it comes to matters of the Spirit is rampant, it is a disease affecting the very church it's self. Why is that so? God gives us thousands of reasons to believe in the unseen, we all believe that if you drop a rock it will fall, that's believing in an unseen, un-felt, extremely powerful force called gravity.
I have a very simple answer that works for me. You see we are taught unbelief at a very early age. We do our children a great disservice by simplifying God and His word. Our children already believe and we teach them to not believe. We teach them to rely on God but we don't teach them Gods rules, Gods law, so when they pray and get no answer then of course they think there is no God or they are unacceptable to God. We tell them cute bedtime stories like David and Goliath, failing to teach the truth about why David was able to kill the giant (covenant) and we tie our children s faith to fables that have little to do with the real living God. We do this in innocence so this is not an indictment against parents or adults in our churches, what it is, is an awareness of what happens to our faith. Don't believe me, go out and ask any unbeliever in this country why they do not believe in God and after a string of excuses it will eventually come down, in most cases, to not having a specific and often selfish prayer answered. So sad, if they had been taught about Gods Laws, Gods Covenants and how he has restricted His power in our lives because He Loves us and has given us free will, those immature prayers would have never been uttered and perhaps those people would still believe, perhaps I would not be filled with so much doubt and unbelief myself if I had been taught right.
Okay, so what is the cure for unbelief?
First is of course Prayer, ask the Lord to help your unbelief (see Mark 9:14 thru 29) or to expose it that you may confess it to Him that he may forgive you of it.
Next is get properly educated, in other words read Gods words daily. I suggest reading from Genesis to Revelation at least once a year and in more than one translation, if you can read Greek and Hebrew that would even be better, (I don't, I feel luck to understand English). Ask God to teach you about Him while you are reading. Honestly guys and gals if you do not read daily Gods word and do not daily make time for Him, ...... well, I suppose, that means something about your heart doesn't it?
Please read and study Gods word for yourself, we are men and no matter how inspired or how long we have been walking with the Lord we are still men and capable of missing it. Part of the New Covenant God has with men through the mediation of His Son Jesus is the promises that, "Not one of them will have to teach another to know me, their Lord.' "All of them will know me, no matter who they are." Hebrews 8:11 CEV.
Thank-you for reading today and may God richly bless you and your family according to His riches in Glory.
